Talking about yourself (with people)

This is one of the most common questions you will ever be asked in any new "environment"; be it work environment, course environment, or even, most commonly, interview environment. Because of these differences, you will always have the flexibility of customizing the pieces of information you use about yourself based on the "context", or according to your listener's request or expectations. But generally, here are some key details to include - especially when I ask you to introduce yourself.

Your name
Your age (sometimes optional)
Your education
Your work field - specialization
Your previous work experience

Where you live
How the place you live in looks like
With whom do you live? (Speak about your family and friends)
Your hobbies = things that you "enjoy doing"
The skills that you wish to develop

The aims of this exercise:

  • You'll be always ready to simply "remember everything about yourself" and be able to introduce yourself whenever asked.
  • You'll learn about "what you do" in English, and you will know how to put it in proper English
  • You will take a step toward "talking" about yourself; your work, experience, identity, likes, dislikes, hobbies, dreams, ....etc.
  • It is designed to give me some information about your aims and thus inform me, as your personal trainer, about my next step with you to improve your skills and best benefit you.

During our online/offline session:

  • You'll be encouraged to talk more
  • You'll be given the "right" expressions that best represent you & your specialization, which will definitely help you with your professional performance.
  • You will have the time to ask and get answers; i.e. have a nice ice-breaking conversation.
So, get yourself ready!
If you've already had it, then you're probably supposed to send me your "Self-Introduction" email as soon as possible.
